City of God
by Dan Schutte

1. Awake from your slumber! Arise from your sleep!
A new day is dawning for all those who weep.
The people in darkness have seen a great light.
The Lord of our longing has conquered the night.

Let us build the city of God.
May our tears be turned into dancing!
For the Lord, our light and our love,
has turned the night into day!

2. We are sons of the morning; we are daughters of day.
The One who has loved us has brightened our way.
The Lord of all kindness has called us to be
a light for his people to set their hearts...

Be Not Afraid sung at the Church of St. Matthew on 12-1-2017. Cantor: Richard Schletty. Pianist: Sr. Anne Becker. Composer: Bob Dufford SJ.

1. You shall cross the barren desert,
but you shall not die of thirst.
You shall wander far in safety
though you do not know the way.
You shall speak your words in foreign lands
and all will understand.
You shall see the face of God and live.

Be not afraid.
I go before you always.
Come, follow me, and I will give you rest.

2. If you pass through raging waters in the sea,
you shall not drown.
If you walk amid the burning flames,
you shall not be harmed.
If you stand before the pow’r of hell
and death is at...

Psalm 131 - In You, O Lord, I Have Found My Peace (Guimont)

R. In you, Lord, I have found my peace.

O LORD, my heart is not proud,
     nor haughty my eyes.
I have not gone after things too great,
     nor marvels beyond me.

Truly, I have set my soul
     in tranquility and silence.
As a weaned child on its mother,
as a weaned child is my soul within me.

O Israel, wait for the LORD,

Please see this blog article to see how this collaboration with Asiansa09 evolved:

Initially, I had imagined this song would be slow and meditative. But the Spirit made me go uptempo! Tell me what you think. Record the song and send it to me! A lead sheet with guitar chords is attached to the end of this story. Thanks, Dan (Asiansa09), for the inspiration.

5/12/17: I uploaded a revised audio demo in which I did voice pitch correction and also corrected mistakes I had made in singing the melody in verses 2 and 3.

Amazed sung by Rich and Tom at faith formation service at St. Mary's Church in St. Paul, MN.

Verse 1
You dance over me
While I am unaware
You sing all around
But I never hear the sound

Lord, I'm amazed by You
Lord, I'm amazed by You
Lord, I'm amazed by You
How You love me

Verse 2
You paint the morning sky
With miracles in mind
My hope will always stand
You hold me in Your hand

How wide how deep
How great is Your love for me

Twenty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time - A

R. The Lord is kind and merciful, slow to anger, and rich in compassion.

Bless the LORD, O my soul,
and all within me, his holy name.
Bless the LORD, O my soul,
and never forget all his benefits.

It is the Lord who forgives all your sins,
who heals every one of your ills,
who redeems your life from the grave,

Here is a meditation I received from my friend, Chris, this morning:

Psalm 96:1-2
Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! Sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, bless His name; proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.

Lord Jesus, strengthen my trust in your word and my hope in your promise of salvation. Set me free from fear, from doubt and from anything that would hold me back from sharing your Gospel with love. Help me to focus on only your will for my life as your humble servant. In your name, Lord Jesus. Amen.

Note from Richard (collaborator with Alex): I have posted my second Folk-Rock sung version of my rewrite of Alex's lyrics. I also posted a very rough Hip-Hop spoken version of Alex's original lyrics. See the first comment below for my modified lyrics. We would appreciate your honest comments about our efforts. Anyone is welcome to join in the fun of collaboration. That's what this site is all about.
