Tom Mohr Rising Leader Series: Week 18 - The Servant

This story is from Tom Mohr's email list. Posted by Richard Schletty on behalf of Tom.

Song for April. Listen => Between the Moments (on Christ’s faithfulness, despite our disconnectedness)

It is the habit of our times to separate our world lives from our faith lives. But this is silliness. Our faith teaches us how to live our lives in the world– how to see God in all people and things, and how to respond to His call. Given the challenges of our time, we need leaders who are both capable and ethical. How do leaders become ethical? You will recall (from previous letters) the ladder of virtues I call the “disciplines of goodness”:

  • Sustainability
  • Diplomacy
  • Democracy
  • Charity
  • Civility
  • Decency
  • Piety

It all flows up from the bottom. Servant leadership begins in our souls, in our relationship with God. With God by our side, in prayer and contemplation, we work to untangle soul knots. Once set free from our self-preoccupations, we look beyond ourselves...

In Christ There Is No East or West

MP3 Music Playlist:

Text: John Oxenham (1908). Based on Galatians 3:23.
Tune: MC KEE. Originally an Irish tune taken to the United States, it was adapted by African American slaves. Arranger: H. T. Burleigh.

1 In Christ there is no east or west,
in him no south or north,
but one great fam'ly bound by love
throughout the whole wide earth.

2 In him shall true hearts everywhere
their high communion find;
his service is the golden cord
close-binding humankind.

3 Join hands, disciples in the faith,
whate'er your race may be.
Who serve each other in Christ's love
are surely kin to me.

4 In Christ now meet both east and west;
in him meet south and north.
All Christly souls are one in him
throughout the whole wide earth.

Responsorial Psalm 117(118):2-4,22-27 for Divine Mercy Sunday - Give Thanks To The Lord For He Is Good, For His Love Has No End

MP3 Music Playlist:

Responsorial Psalm 117(118):2-4,22-27

Give thanks to the Lord for He is good, for His love has no end.

Let the sons of Israel say:
‘His love has no end.’
Let the sons of Aaron say:
‘His love has no end.’
Let those who fear the Lord say:
‘His love has no end.’

Give thanks to the Lord for He is good, for His love has no end.

The stone which the builders rejected
has become the corner stone.

The Good Lord Loves You, 1979

The Good Lord Loves You was composed by American songwriter Richard Fagan. This song was recorded by Neil Diamond and released on the September Morn album in 1979.

Responsorial Psalm 117(118):1-2,16-17,22-23 for Easter - Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

MP3 Music Playlist:

Responsorial Psalm 117(118):1-2,16-17,22-23

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Give thanks to the Lord for He is good,
for His love has no end.
Let the sons of Israel say:
‘His love has no end.’

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

The Lord’s right hand has triumphed;
His right hand raised me up.
I shall not die, I shall live
and recount His deeds.

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

The stone which the builders rejected
has become the corner stone.
This is the work of the Lord,
a marvel in our eyes.

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Responsorial Psalm 30(31):2,6,12-13,15-17,25 for Good Friday - Father, Into Your Hands I Commend My Spirit

MP3 Music Playlist:

Responsorial Psalm 30(31):2,6,12-13,15-17,25

Father, into Your hands I commend my spirit.

In You, O Lord, I take refuge.
Let me never be put to shame.
In Your justice, set me free,
Into Your hands I commend my spirit.
It is You who will redeem me, Lord.

Father, into Your hands I commend my spirit.

In the face of all my foes
I am a reproach,
an object of scorn to my neighbours
and of fear to my friends.

Father, into Your hands I commend my spirit.

Those who see me in the street
run far away from me.
I am like a dead man, forgotten in men’s hearts,
like a thing thrown away.

Father, into Your hands I commend my spirit.

But as for me, I trust in You, Lord;
I say: ‘You are my God.
My life is in Your hands, deliver me
from the hands of those who hate me.

Father, into Your hands I commend my spirit.

Let Your face shine on Your servant.
Save me in Your love.’
Be strong, let your heart take courage,
all who hope in the Lord.

Father, into Your hands I commend my spirit.

Responsorial Psalm 115(116):12-13,15-18 for Maundy Thursday - The Blessing-cup That We Bless Is A Communion With The Blood Of Ch

MP3 Music Playlist:

Responsorial Psalm 115(116):12-13,15-18

The blessing-cup that we bless is a communion with the blood of Christ.

How can I repay the Lord
for His goodness to me?
The cup of salvation I will raise;
I will call on the Lord’s name.

The blessing-cup that we bless is a communion with the blood of Christ.

O precious in the eyes of the Lord
is the death of His faithful.
Your servant, Lord, Your servant am I;
You have loosened my bonds.

The blessing-cup that we bless is a communion with the blood of Christ.

A thanksgiving sacrifice I make;
I will call on the Lord’s name.
My vows to the Lord I will fulfil
before all His people.

The blessing-cup that we bless is a communion with the blood of Christ.

Responsorial Psalm 21(22):8-9,17-20,23-24 for Palm Sunday - My God, My God, Why Have You Forsaken Me?

MP3 Music Playlist:

Responsorial Psalm 21(22):8-9,17-20,23-24

My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?

All who see me deride me.
They curl their lips, they toss their heads.
‘He trusted in the Lord, let Him save him;
let Him release him if this is his friend.’

My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?

Many dogs have surrounded me,
a band of the wicked beset me.
They tear holes in my hands and my feet
I can count every one of my bones.

My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?

They divide my clothing among them.
They cast lots for my robe.
O Lord, do not leave me alone,
my strength, make haste to help me!

My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?

I will tell of Your name to my brethren
and praise You where they are assembled.
‘You who fear the Lord give Him praise;
all sons of Jacob, give Him glory.
Revere Him, Israel’s sons.

My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?

Highly Recommended CD for Easter

I was in the gift shop of the San Diego Mission and hear music playing.  it was Collin Raye HIS LOVE REMAINS  CD and I immediately bought it and have been listening since.  His voice is so beautiful and pure as well as the song selections.  Recorded with a great grand piano player and violins.  I highly recommend it.
