The New Heaven and Earth

Isaiah lived about seven hundred years before Christ. He gave the breathtaking prophecy that God would create a new heaven and earth and gave some details of what that would be like. There was nothing like this in the ancient world, no speculation or ideas. St. John the Apostle/prophet tells us in the book of Revelation (eight hundred years after Isaiah) that he actually SAU the new heavens and earth and gave some details of what he saw. Now about two thousand years after John’s revelation, we wait in joyful hope, as we pray every day in the Holy Mass, for the the coming of the Lord who will usher in the glorious new heaven and earth. The Catechism of the Catholic Church(CCC paragraphs #1042-1050) teaches that the new heaven and new earth will be the fulfillment of God's plan to unite all things in Christ. It teaches that the new heaven and earth will be a time when the universe is renewed and perfectly re-established in Christ. It teaches that the new heaven and new earth will be a three-dimensional reality that includes aspects of our physical lives in a glorified way. The new heaven and new earth will be a time when death is no more, and there is no more suffering or pain.

I saw the new heaven and the new earth
and I heard a loud voice from heaven, saying
This is God’s dwelling place among men.
And He shall live forever with them.
ISAIAH 65: 17-25
1) The Lord will wipe away every tear from their eyes;
death will no longer hold sway over them,
for all that used to be has passed away.
2)Lo, I am about to create new heavens and a new earth;
The things of the past shall not be remembered or come to mind.
Instead, there shall always be rejoicing and happiness in what I create;
3) For I create Jerusalem to be a joy
and its people to be a delight;
I will rejoice in Jerusalem/ and exult in my people.

4)No longer shall the sound of weeping be heard there, or the sound of crying;
They shall live in the houses they build,
and eat the fruit of the vineyards they plant;
5)The wolf and the lamb shall graze alike,
and the lion shall eat hay like the ox
None shall hurt or destroy
on all my holy mountain, says the Lord
