How Can I Keep From Singing

To this timeless eighteenth-century hymn, various verses have been added. I added two strophes that reflect the contemporary problems we face.
1 My life flows on in endless song,
All through Earth’s lamentation
I catch his sweet, though far-off voice
that hails the new creation.
2 When nations wage their high-tech wars
With threats of nuclear weapons
I hear Christ’s voice be not afraid
I bring the new creation REFRAIN
REFRAIN
No storm can shake my inmost calm
while to that Rock I’m clinging
Since Christ is lord of heaven and earth,
how can I keep from singing?
3 Through all the tumult and the strife,
I hear that music ringing.
It finds an echo in my soul.
How can I keep from singing?
4 What though my joys and comforts die
I know my savior liveth
What though the darkness gather round
Songs in the night he giveth REFRAIN
5 More and more we twist the truth
To put each other down
I hear his voice - who is the truth
Say - speak the truth in love
6 The peace of Christ makes my soul
A fountain ever springing
All things are mine since I am his
