When We Are Living/Pues Si Vivimos

When we are living, we are in Christ Jesus.
And when we die, we remain in Him.
Both in our living and in our dying
We are the Lord's. We belong to Him.

Pues si vivimos para Él vivimos
Y si morimos para Él morimos.
Sea que vivamos o que muramos,
Somos del Señor, somos del Señor.

We Have Been Told by David Haas

A difficult song for me to sing as I am a baritone-bass and it was quite early on a Sunday morning. Yet, I offer this as a guide for you to learn the song. When I play it with guitar, I transpose it down one or two steps. This was recorded with a Zoom H2 digital recorder on May 3, 2015, at the Church of Saint Matthew in St. Paul, MN. Sr. Anne Becker at piano. Please pray for the strength and endurance of this parish.

We Have Been Told

Refrain
We have been told.
We've seen his face
and heard his voice alive in our hearts.
Live in my love with all your heart.
As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you.

The Lord Is Kind And Merciful (Haugen)

Psalm 103 - The Lord Is Kind and Merciful (Haugen). Sung at Church of St. Mary on 8/26/2017 by Richard Schletty. Mary Joy at piano.

Refrain
The Lord is kind and merciful, the Lord is kind and merciful.

1. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all my being bless God’s name;
bless the Lord, and forget not God’s benefits.

2. God pardons all your iniquities, and comforts your sorrows,
redeems your life from destruction and crowns you with kindness.

3. Merciful, merciful, and gracious is our God;
slow to anger, abounding in kindness.

The Joy of Grace

Solo version by Richard Schletty (guitar and voice). A collaboration with David Gomez, www.fourhandsproject.com.

The Joy of Grace (no. 11)
5th Movement, Hungry for Heaven – www.hungryforheaven.com

Rolling down a highway slipstream
You're missing signs, you don't look both ways
Just passing time in your dream machine
On a journey, out of phase

In the cradle of a grand creation
Under the moon and stars above
You begin to read the cracks and the ripples
You begin to feel a season of love

You are a member of His body
You are reflected in His face
You are a laborer for justice
You are infected with His grace

You are cooled in the shade of a holy tree
Watered from the well of eternity
Nourished by the Word, dancing joyously

[refrain]
Our Lord will lead you to this place
Our Lord will bring the joy of grace

Write your songs in the desert
Dream your visions in streams of unrest
Run the viridian shoreline
Harvest the teeming tempest forest

[refrain]
Our Lord will lead you to this place
Our Lord will bring the joy of grace

Praise the God of all souls
Praise the Lord of the way
Praise the Healer of woes
Praise our Hope for each day

Hear the unborn babies wailing
Fear our lost humanity
Hear the rattle of broken vows
Fear the shadows of vanity

What will bring us through?
It is grace!
Know the joy of grace!
What will bring us through?
It is grace!
Know the joy of grace!

[refrain]
Our Lord will lead you to this place
Our Lord will bring the joy of grace
Our Lord will lead you to this place
Our Lord will bring the joy of grace

How Great Thou Art

How Great Thou Art sung at a funeral at St. Matthew's Catholic Church on 9/9/2015. Verses 1 and 4. Read about the song here: http://www.hymntime.com/tch/htm/h/o/w/how_great_Thou_art.htm

1. O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the *worlds thy hands have made,
I see the stars, I hear the *rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed:

Refrain

Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee:
How great thou art! How great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee:
How great thou art! How great thou art!

2. When through the woods and forest glades I wander
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees,
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,
And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze:

Refrain

3. And when I think that God, his Son not sparing,
Sent him to die, I scarce can take it in,
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

Refrain

4. When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then *I shall bow in humble adoration,
And there proclaim, My God, how great thou art!

Author’s original words are works, mighty and shall I bow

Here I Am, Lord - Dan Schutte

I sang this at the Mass of Christian Burial of Agnes Hartmann yesterday. She was 101 years old.

1. I, the Lord of sea and sky,
I have heard my people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin,
My hand will save.
I, who made the stars of night,
I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear my light to them?
Whom shall I send?

Chorus
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.

2. I, the Lord of snow and rain,
I have borne my people's pain.
I have wept for love of them.
They turn away.
I will break their hearts of stone,
Give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak my words to them.
Whom shall I send?

Chorus

3. I, the Lord of wind and flame,
I will tend the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them.
My hand will save.
Finest bread I will provide,
'Til their hearts be satisfied.
I will give my life to them.
Whom shall I send?

Chorus

Child of Eternal Love

[verse 1]
God, in glory, brings a star so bright.
A Son is born in a bed of barley hay.
Behold the Savior, our New Light,
Child of Eternal Love, Shepherd of the way.

[verse 2]
Mary, full of grace, will know the sorrow and the joy
of bringing forth the One Whom the prophets long foretold.
Joseph, by her side, will help raise up the Boy,
Child of Eternal Love, Flower to unfold.

[refrain]
Praise the Father of all creation
Praise the Son who conquers death
Praise the Spirit with jubilation
Grow God's love with every breath

[interlude]

[verse 3]
In the dark of night, in the winter chill,
We lift our prayers to the Trinity above.
Oh come, new Tree of Life, our hope fulfilled:
A Child of Promise of Eternal Love.

Sequence for Pentecost: Mode I (guitar and voice)

Sequence for Pentecost. Voice and 6-string nylon string guitar performed by Richard Schletty. Text: Sequence for Pentecost, 13th Century; translated by Peter Scagnelli, © 1983. Tune: Mode I; accompaniment by Adrian Engels, © Interkerkelijke Stichting voor het Kerklied.

There are two days on the church calendar (Easter and Pentecost) when the liturgy calls for a "sequence," a special hymn that may be sung or recited before the gospel. The sequence for Pentecost dates from the 12th century. This setting's text is an English translation by Peter Scagnelli. It is #981 in GIA's RitualSong hymnbook and #470 in GIA's Gather Comprehensive, Second Edition.

The song art is the center portion of a massive 50-foot-wide mural I painted for Holy Spirit Parish a few years ago. Details here: Grasped by the Holy Spirit mural

Sequence for Pentecost

Holy Spirit, Lord Divine,
Come, from heights of heav’n and shine.
Come with blessed radiance bright!

Come, O Father of the poor,
Come, whose treasured gifts endure.
Come, our heart’s unfailing light!

Of consolers, wisest, best,
And our souls’ most welcome guest,
Sweet refreshment, sweet repose.

In our labor rest most sweet,
Pleasant coolness in the heat,
Consolation in our woes.

Light most blessed, shine with grace
In our heart’s most secret place,
Fill your faithful through and through!

Left without your presence here,
Life itself would disappear,
Nothing thrives apart from you!

Cleanse our soiled hearts of sin,
Arid souls refresh within,
Wounded lives to health restore!

Bend the stubborn heart and will,
Melt the frozen, warm the chill,
Guide the wayward home once more!

On the faithful who are true
And profess their faith in you,
In your sev’n-fold gift descend!

Give us virtue’s sure reward,
Give us your salvation, Lord,
Give us joys that never end!

Holy Is His Name - John Michael Talbot

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord
And my spirit exults in God my Savior
For He has looked with mercy on my lowliness
And His name will be forever exalted
For the mighty God has done great things for me
And His mercy will reach from age to age

And holy, holy, holy is His name
And holy, holy...  Read Full Story >>>
