Responsorial Psalm 39(40):2-4,7-10 for the 2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Year A - Here I Am, Lord! I Come To Do Your Will

MP3 Music Playlist:

Responsorial Psalm 39(40):2,4,7-10 for the 2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Year A

Here I am, Lord! I come to do your will.

I waited, I waited for the Lord
and he stooped down to me;
he heard my cry.
He put a new song into my mouth,
praise of our God.

Here I am, Lord! I come to do your will.

You do not ask for sacrifice and offerings,
but an open ear.

Rising Leader Series by Tom Mohr completed

Note from editor Richard Schletty: Tom Mohr has been in leadership roles almost continuously since 1980. Tom's "Rising Leader Series" includes reflections on faith and leadership, coupled with recordings of his own original songs of faith. Read Tom's bio here. Below is an excerpt from a letter Tom sent to me today.

Dear Richard,

As you know, I have been publishing throughout this year a weekly letter, sent to 50,000 churches throughout North America. Each letter has a letter, poem, and link to the song for that month. I have called this series The Rising Leader Series.

I am now turning in earnest to the work of promoting my music and seeking out performing opportunities – especially for my Rising Leader Series message.

Here are the links to 52 letters for the Rising Leader Series:

The Christmas Song, Mel Torme 1945

"The Christmas Song" sometimes titled "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire" or, as it was originally subtitled, "Merry Christmas to You" is a classic Christmas song written in 1945 by Robert Wells and Mel Torme.

According to Torme, the song was written in July during a blistering hot summer. In an effort to "stay cool by thinking cool", the most-performed Christmas song was born. "I saw a spiral pad on his (Wells's) piano with four lines written in pencil", Torme recalled. "They started, 'Chestnuts roasting..., Jack Frost nipping..., Yuletide carols..., Folks dressed up like Eskimos.' Bob didn't think he was writing a song lyric. He said he thought if he could immerse himself in winter he could cool off. Forty minutes later that song was written. I wrote all the music and some of the lyrics."

The Nat King Cole Trio first recorded the song in June 1946.

Dedicated to all beautiful peoples of our world!
Peace and Joy is my wish for all!!!

Come Holy Ghost - in swing time with a Marian twist

If anyone is interested I just released a recording of the traditional Catholic hymn Come Holy Ghost with some interesting, catchy variations. In particular I added two prayers to the Holy Spirit as bridges. The song is uplifting, but prayerful at the same time.
